I’m back from asphalt sailing the highways of California. In reflecting on the “high octane” activity surrounding the “Artist Bio” experiment of a few days ago, I realize that we all learned something.
It would be a really good idea if all you little art creators had prepared a “hand out” so that at a moment’s notice you could take advantage of any opportunity that might show up for you. The timestamp revealed that some folks ALMOST had a chance to get in on the action, but they took longer than some other peeps. “You really had sumthin! You coulda been a contendah!”
There is an ancient saying amongst the Samurai warriors:
Expect nothing. Be prepared for anything.
How about taking the time to assemble a bit of info and bio about yourself? How about having a few examples of your work, so that in case someone wants to find out more about you and what you do, you are ready to pounce like a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Ah… my little Samurai art warriors, your study has made you prepared. The “Force” is strong within you.
- Your bio and/or artist’s statement. (Whuzzup?)
- A photo of you in all of your radiant glory.
- Samples of your work and/or play (depending on how you feel about what you do.)
- Practice, practice, practice. (Wax on… Wax off.)
- Bonus Round! A feeling of accomplishment!
- Hooray for you!

The Yosemite Western Artists had an Artist Parking Lot Sale on Saturday June 25th at the Oakhurst Shopping Center on Road 426. While it wasn’t exactly equal to the Mall of America, it was a nice day to be out and about. It seemed that many people who were planning to attend decided at the last minute to not show up when they found out that the Ferris Wheel and the Cotton Candy Machine were not included in the festivities. Many were also disappointed that they couldn’t get a Corn Dog with their art. Lori Ann Cole shot some photos so that you could see a few of the wonderful artists who did show that day.

The monthly contributions by Yosemite Western Artists Photographers are now located on their own gallery page so that they have a consistent place to be displayed. What started out as an effort to give a bit more equitable “visibility” to the group has now evolved into a regular “thang.”
You can see this month’s current musings on the subject of “Water” and if you are a member of the YWA, you can participate, even if you usually only paint or weave or throw mud.

Jacqueline Mallouf recently won a ribbon at the YWA Tri-County Art Show with her photograph “Sky Light” and has now set up her page in the YWA Member’s Gallery. She is dedicated to discovering the subtle nuances available in the new digital systems and feels that she likes the control that she could not achieve with traditional methods. Her work can be seen at Willow Bridge Books.

How do you get back to creativity? What do you do to keep in the groove?
As an artist, you may have experienced a time when you are getting ready to do your work, or you have a deadline or you want to do something really expressive and you can’t seem to get started. You might feel stuck, or “dead in the water” or blocked or “blank” or emptied of all creative drive or however you feel or don’t feel about it, yourself, your environment, your work or your life.
When you think about it, does it always work the same, or is it a continuum that also needs to adjust to the situation and your environment.
Can you please share what techniques that you use to get you back into form? How you go about minimizing the effects of the “the doldrums?” How do you put the wind back in your sails? Inquiring minds want to know. Please contribute some handy tips that might inspire each other to higher realms of creativity.
Just add your comments below! (:
