Mariposa Evenings Final Showdown!

2010 August 22
by mark4photos

The Mariposa County Arts Council presents the last two shows of the 2010 season of Cousin Jack’s Mariposa Evenings: The STRING SLINGERZ on Friday, August 27th, and on Saturday, August 28th, GOOD MEDICINE will perform.

The String Slingerz in action

The String Slingerz play “old-timey” music on traditional instruments – guitar, upright bass, fiddle, & banjo – and sing in harmonies with old radio show flair; true Americana from a time before television and the internet, when families would gather around the radio to listen to the news of the day, farm reports, presidential addresses, the humor and wisdom of Will Rogers, and live performances of every musical genre from opera to the backwoods, rural style this group plays.

A fitting way to end the season is with the late Cousin Jack’s favorite group, Good Medicine, a group that has entertained Mariposa Evenings audiences for 18 of the 19 years the concerts have been presented. Their individual resumés, along with decades of constant touring and recording have polished the core duo (Frank & Debbie Sipes) of this eclectic, “folk-a-delic” group into a favorite throughout the state and beyond. This night’s performance will include some special guests, making it a kind of rare, full-band presentation. Google either of these fine bands for more description – and join us for the shows!

All performances for Mariposa Evenings will be held at the Mariposa County Arts Park, located on Hwy. 140, between 4th and 5th Streets, in downtown Mariposa. There is ample, free parking on 5th Street, just a pleasant stroll along the Creek Walkway to the park, which will also provide handicap access. Tips are encouraged and appreciated. Each performance will begin at 7:00 pm. Mariposa Evenings is made available through generous donations by local businesses, which are featured in our Mariposa Evenings program. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket for park seating. We sincerely appreciate the support of the community, our loyal sponsors and Ronnie Sweeting for coordination of this summertime tradition!
