Affordable Art @ Gertrude
So, we had the Affordable Art Sale on a nice spring Saturday at the historic Gertrude School. The whole schoolroom was filled, and represented by some of our talented painters. It seems that all the photographers were out somewhere shooting instead of “holding down the fort” with the painter contingent.
The Gertrude is always interesting to see. It changes every time I go there. The light on the building, the different events, the weather, the grass around the lot, the woodpecker holes. Good Times!
I was talking with Doug Boomer about an offer that Randy Graham of Oakhurst Frameworks made that he could host a YWA Art Sale a few times a year on the parking lot of the Oakhurst Shopping Center on Rd. 426. It might be good to talk it up and see if it is something that the members would be interested in doing. Randy’s reasoning is that the Center is a lot more accessible to tourists than the Gertrude School. They could find just the memento that would keep their trip to the Yosemite region as a lasting treasure of their experience.
Our art makes us happy when we do it and happier when we can share it or have someone acknowledge its value through a sale.

Hi Mark
I think an Art Sale and show at Randy’s would be a great idea.! Let’s do it.
Hi Mark, The idea of having art sales near Randy’s on 426 is a great idea. Would we be able to bring shelters etc. to the site for cover? Are there any other considerations? If the powers that be consider it OK, I’m OK too! Marie
Whatever………
I think it could become a workable space and eventually be successful to exhibit art work. Like anything, advertising/publicity is the key. And–what would make this exhibit different from any other? What would make it unique?
The thing that is different is it is in one of the highest traffic areas of Oakhurst with a lot of easy access and parking. It also is a location that everyone in town and visitors are used to seeing activity in. It almost has a “Farmer’s Market” feel to the events that happen there.
