Hornitos on Dia de los Muertos
I “sashayed” into town a bit early for the festivities and walked around Hornitos for the first time in my life. You just had to admire the longevity of the place.
I met some folks, some visitors, some locals. Heard about how Joaquin Murrieta had hung out and about there. Heard that they used to ship out $40,000 of gold bullion a day (when gold was $16 an ounce) in the “heyday de los Hornitos.” Heard about the guy who blew up his house in the 1940′s for $500. It looks like the ultimate fixer-upper.
The Gallery was decked out in the splendor of the celebration of the holiday. The art was colorful and “in the style!”
Dia de los Muertos! When I was a young lad in San Diego, that day was little scary for me because of all the skeletons. Yikes! But later, I noticed that they were all smiling. Never really understood the celebration until I went to Olvera Street in L.A. once and then, it all fell into place. It is a really wonderful thing to do. Let’s give a “shout out” for All the Souls!

The event was magical. I look forward to sharing more, and hope to see contributions from others as well. Jonb
The DOTD show in Hornitos was fabulous! All told it was a fantastic event that has been VERY well received.
We are already planning for next year. If you were able to attend, I hope that you enjoyed the show! If not please join us next year.
Please feel free to give us your feedback, suggestions for improvements, etc. We will have ample time to make the show even better!
